Gauges! I got tired of guessing what my voltage was, but i figured if i was doing gauges, i might as well do em all, so i picked up this cheap set of 1.5" Sunpro's at Advance Auto. I decided to put them in the middle of the dash where the small pocket is, so i picked up a cheap plastic tray from Walmart for $4 to use for plastic, and made a panel to close up the whole area. When cutting it open, i found that plug behind the dash. Dunno what its for, but it was perfect for what i was doing- the black wire served as ground for the voltmeter & bulbs. the Wht/Blk is a Key-On +12, perfect for teh volt meter. The Red/Ylo is +12 from the light switch, perfect for the gauge illumination, altho for some reason its not controlled by the dimmer switch, cant imagine why. The Wht/Grn is a constant +12 which im not using. So all said, i only needed to make a 2" long wiring harness for the gauges. Under the hood i removed a plug in the block in front of the oil filter for the oil pressure gauge- this one was easy as a standard 3/8 pipe fitting fits the hole. So i used a 3/8 to 1/8 reducer, stuffed a 90º compression fitting in there and done. For the water temp i used a 28mm water temp gauge adapter from Glowshift, which i had to drill out to 1/4 NPT for the mechanical temp probe to fit. Next time ill order an adapter from someone else that is already the right size. |
