So i decided to update the lighting on the truck a bit. Up front i gave the truck the full clear treatment, with a set of housings from CP Trucks. Right off the bat, i think they do a huge job of improving the look of the nose. The beam pattern of the headlights is a little different, the beam is clearer and not quite as diffused as it is from the OEM housings. Out back i installed a "5 way" LED light bar from LMC. Its a little different than most, in that is has amber turn signals in addition to the usual red stop/tail lights, and the white back-up lights. The back-up lights are actually pretty bright too, they add a lot of light to the rear for backing up in the dark. Its designed to plug into the stock 4-way on the back of the truck (with the back-up light getting spliced into the truck harness), but instead i added a flat 5-way (think small boat trailer with back-up lights) and hooked it up to that, so if i ever tow a trailer with a 5-way, i can just unplug the lightbar & go. The clear cab lights are LED, and also came from LMC. They came with a crappy install kit that doesnt even include enough parts to install them if you ask me. But whatever, i already have cab lights, so i just cut the plugs off my original lights and soldered them onto the new LED ones. Presto, removable LED cab lights! This was the easiest of the 3 jobs to do. They are a nice amber color, and look awesome at night. Combined with the headlights, i think they do a good job of improving the looks of the front-end. Part Two: Tails. These are a set of LED tails made by a member of FSB I tihnk they compliment the LED bar nicely. The STT plugs directly into the harness with no mods, and it uses an LED 3156 for the reverse light. Only issue i had, is the LED 3156s they come with (for the reverse lights) are pinned in a mirror image compared to a normal bulb, so i could not use them. |
