So i wrapped the springs up real bad at Paragon on 11/27. Didnt even catch it till halfway thru the third day, and by the end of the weeklend the ujoint was pretty much toast; it crumbled in my hand when i unbolted the drive shaft to get the D70 out. So, i knew i needed to do something to prevent the perches from getting crushed like they did and letting the pinion rotate up & down. The correct thing to do wouldve been to put new perches on and make a ladder bar, but with getting ready for the wedding and move, i didnt have time to make one. Plus, i hopefully intend to link the rear of the truck this summer ('07), in which case the ladder bar would be junk, so i decided to go for the cheap fix. Insert crush-proof perches here! The new perches are made out of 1/4" wall rect tubing cut in half. There is then another piece of 1/4" plate welded to the top of that, and a third leg made out of 3/8" plate welded into the middle. On top of that, after the perch was welded on, we capped the front of the perch (where the old one crushed) with another piece of 1/4" plate. No way are these suckers gonna bend now! |
