So agter getting to sit in ox's rig, and seeing how much better the visibility was with his tube doors, i knew i wanted to make a set of doors for myself. But, since my truck will end uyp seeing more mud than his, i also wanted something to keep atleast some of the mud out. So that means its time to make half doors! I saved a set of doors from a parts truck, just so id be able to make a set, w/o having to slice up my own doors. This way i could swap between the two. But, it also meant i had to devise a way to make it easy enough to do so. Sooo, i also saved the hinges with those doors. The plan was to cut the pins out of both hinges, and make removable ones. This way i could leave the hinges bolted (and aligned) to both doors, and just pull the pins out to remove the door. So i took 6 4.4" 3/8 bolts (i wanted two spares) cut em down so they just stick thru the hinge, and drilled a hole for a pin. Problem solved! Now, my doors have power windows & locks, in addition to the speaker in there. But, Ford put disconnects behind the kick panel. So, all you have to do is unplug those two connectors (for each door) and the door is now removable! Just a side note- the locks & windows wont work unless both doors are hooked up! Update 10/08: Added cupholders! Theyve been right in front of me for years. Well, i guess, technically theyve been behind me- they are from the back of a 92-96 xcab. Fit into a hole 1.5" by 4.75". They work pretty good. |
