Its time for a live axle up front. Dont get me wrong, the TTB has its places, but under my rig is not one of them!! I was tired of having to take it easy due to bent and broken parts everywhere, so it was time to step it up a notch. i dont see much of a need to go to a D44 since its only marginally stronger, so the decidision was made to go to a Dana 60. Now of course, everyone knows that coils are cooler than leafs, so the decision was made to stay with them. The coils i am using are the 'old style' 6" Superflex coils, made by Deaver, and sold by JBG. The radius arms (& 14" travel shocks) are made by Cage Offroad. The tracbar is custom, .250" wall with 3/4" heims. the steering is 1.25" DOM with one-ton chevy rod ends, flipped over top of the knuckle, and a stock pitman arm. The coil mounts are stock 70s ford, and the shock towers are 86-97 F350 towers. There is a 4º shim underneath the lower coil mounts to help combat the coil wanting to bow out towards the tire. The upper coil mounts have an additional ubolt in them to help hold the coils in place, pics of this can be seen here. 3/2012: bilstein 5150s, to replace the worn-out Cage shocks. They served their purpose, but i expect these to perform a lot better. |
