"How To Make A Simple Project Complicated" AKA Tie-Rod flip So i needed to improve my steering angles a bit; seems the F250 pitman arm just wasnt quite enough drop to compensate for the 2.5" lift. Now, i could have bought a drop pitman arm, but thats too easy! So instead i bought a set of Ford tapered tie rod sleeves from Sky Manufacturing, and flipped the TREs to the top of the knuckle. This is debatebly better, since it raises the TREs up out of harms way, and then you dont get the added leverage on the steering box that a drop pitman arm creates. Unfortunately, it rendered the sway bar unusable, as the TREs then occupied the same space. So i took the end links, cut them in half, welded some 3/4" rod to them, and then installed them on the opposite sides of the bronco with some tube between, drilled for 1/4" bolts. A bit more work this way, but now i can easily disconnect the sway bar, should this thing ever see a rocky trail. |
